CFEH researcher awarded a grant for age-related macular degeneration studies
Congratulations to Lisa Nivison-Smith who was successful in obtaining a Rebecca L Cooper Foundation grant to support her macular degeneration research. The Rebecca L Cooper Foundation is a charity that supports medical research and advancement in Australia.
Dr Jack Phu receives research award
Congratulations to Dr Jack Phu (CFEH Lead Clinician – glaucoma)
On Friday night Jack was awarded the Award for Research Excellence (early career research) by the UNSW faculty of science. This award reflects Jack’s hard work and innovative research and was fabulous recognition of the results he has achieved so far. Well done Jack!
CFEH at the UNSW sensory science exhibition
Dr Lisa Nivison-Smith (Senior Research Associate at CFEH) was one of the breakout champions at the UNSW Sensory Science Exhibit. The event was full of exhibits to communicate science to those who have low vision or vision impairment. Tactile posters of the retina were used to explain some of the pathways in the retina and how they alter in disease.
New CFEH Research Paper
Pharmaceutical Society of Australia 2018 Conference in Sydney
Paula Katalinic (CFEH head clinician, vascular disease) recently presented at the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia 2018 conference in Sydney. Paula was invited to speak about Diabetes eye care in the community and explore ways in which optometry and pharmacy can work together to improve the eye health of diabetic patients.
CFEH Staff receive funding for research.
Congratulations to CFEH staff Barbara Zangerl, Michael Yapp, Angelica Ly and Christina Ly who were successful in receiving funding from UNSW to develop automated pattern recognition software to detect glaucomatous optic nerve head changes.
