Living with vision loss comes with challenges, and it is important to take care of your mental health and wellbeing. There are a number of mental health apps that are designed to help users to decrease stress, lift their mood, improve sleep quality, and reduce anxiety. Here are some apps that can help you to practice mindfulness and improve your mental wellbeing.

  • Calm

    Calm is an app designed to help users to improve sleep, stress, and mindfulness. The app consists of meditation sessions, including guided sessions, sleep stories, videos for gentle stretching, and a music library. The sessions range from three to twenty-five minutes in length so you can use the app on the go or at home. The app is free to download and there is a 7-day free trial, but to continue using Calm, it requires a $79.99 annual fee.

  • Headspace

    Headspace is an app that is designed to help users to practice mindfulness and meditation in their daily lives. Similar to Calm, the app consists of guided meditations, including bedtime meditations, mini meditations, and a video series called 'The Wake Up' to start off your day. The app also includes mindfulness courses, breathing exercises, and at-home workouts. The app is subscription based, and there is a 7-day or 14-day free trial depending on the subscription plan. A Headspace monthly subscription costs $19.99 per month, and a yearly subscription costs $91.99 per year.

  • Feeling Good: Mental Fitness

    Feeling Good is an app that consists of audio tracks designed to decrease stress, anxiety, and depression, and improve your confidence, lift your mood, and help you to relax. The app uses the method of upstream CBT which is a positive psychological approach which aims to increase positive emotions to drive behavioural change. The program 'Feeling Good For Life' consists of 12 audio tracks lasting 18 minutes each, taking up to 12 weeks to complete the program. The app is free to download but requires a referral code or one-time payment to access.

  • Moodfit

    Moodfit is a mental health app that can help to reduce stress and improve mental wellbeing. Some of the features of the app include a mood journal to better understand your mood, breathwork and mindfulness exercises, personalised daily goals, and educational content about mental health. The app is free to download and some of the features are free, but you can also access premium features with a subscription costing between $16.49 to $65.99 depending on your subscription plan.

  • MindDoc

    MindDoc is a mental health app designed to help users learn more about their mental health and wellbeing. MindDoc prompts the user to answer questions about their mood and suggests information and exercises to help to improve their mood and manage their mental health. The app also features courses on many different topics to help users understand their mental health better. MindDoc can be downloaded for free and offers free features. There is also a paid subscription that enables you to access all courses and exercises and receive more personalised feedback.
